Ahead of marking his half-decade plus one year at the helm, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his longevity in North London is fundamentally dependent to achieving success.

Reflecting on: The Arteta Era

The former Arsenal captain was appointed on December 20th, 2019 and promptly led the team to an cup win within months. However, that initial silverware remains his lone major honor following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Absolutely,” he stated when questioned about remaining in charge after his current deal. “But it’s about today. And numerous factors need to fall into place in the next few months as well to earn the right.”

League Position and Pressure

He added, praising the strong backing from the hierarchy, yet identifying the players' commitment as the key factor. “Ultimately, the most important ones are those players... Over this half-decade, I’ve seen just players with a level of attention, willingness to improve and give their all to the team.”

The team faces the upcoming game dealing with yet another injury. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a strain that is anticipated to see him miss action for a few weeks.

Confidence in the Path

Even with the fitness woes and the high-stakes environment, Arteta believes the club's “priorities and messaging” are vastly different from when he first arrived.

He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as proof they are close. “You look at the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that tells you the standard we operate at.”

In closing, the manager stated, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has not witnessed in the past. And our ambition is to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
